Push changes to GitHub

Send your Falconer edits to GitHub as a commit or a pull request.

Edits stay in Falconer until you push them. What a push does depends on the space’s merge strategy.

Open the Diff tab in the document sidebar to see exactly what will change on GitHub. If there’s nothing to push, it shows that the document matches GitHub.

To review every change in the space, click View diff on a card in the GitHub sync drawer.

  1. Open the push dialog in any of these ways:
    • Click the document’s sync status.
    • Choose Push to GitHub from the document menu. This option appears once the document is on GitHub.
    • Click Push on the document’s card in the GitHub sync drawer.
  2. Check the commit message. Falconer suggests one based on your changes, and you can edit it.
  3. Click Push to GitHub. With the Pull request merge strategy, click Open pull request, or Update pull request if the document already has one.

When the push finishes, click View commit or View pull request in the confirmation to open it on GitHub.

Open the GitHub sync drawer from the space header.

  • Direct commit: click Push all changes at the bottom of the drawer, optionally edit the commit message, and click Push. All changes land in a single commit.
  • Pull request: select the changes to include, then click Create pull request. If there’s already an open pull request, click Push changes and choose Add to pull request or Create new pull request.

If some changes can’t be pushed, Falconer pushes the rest and tells you which ones failed.

With the Pull request merge strategy, each push opens a GitHub pull request against the synced branch.

  • Documents waiting in a pull request show Open PR.
  • If you edit a document after opening its pull request, push again to update the same pull request, or choose Create new PR to open a separate one. If someone else opened that pull request, pushing opens a new one.
  • The GitHub sync drawer lists the Open pull requests Falconer opened for the space.

The changes reach the synced branch once the pull request is merged on GitHub.

If the file changed on GitHub since your last sync, the push stops and Falconer pulls the GitHub version. If the changes don’t overlap, they’re merged automatically and you can push again. If they do, the document shows Conflicts. See Resolve conflicts, then push again.
